Axolotl tank setup is not what most people expect. There’s a few very important things to know when setting up your tank for your axolotl. Do not use gravel!
Axolotl will eat small things like gravel and this can cause them to choke and die. Instead use sand or even just have nothing on the bottom. Many axolotl tanks have nothing on the floor, and that’s fine. Sand or some other non-swallow-able substance is nice though as it helps give home for beneficial bacteria that helps with the tanks ammonia levels.
